Introduction

What is the MAKE Award?

Inaugurated in 1998, the Most Admired Knowledge Enterprise (MAKE) Award was conducted by Teleos (a British foremost independent research company in knowledge management and intellectual capital areas) in association with the KNOW network every year. It seeks to recognise organisations which out-perform their peers in creating shareholderˇ¦s wealth by transforming tacit and explicit enterprise knowledge and intellectual capital into superior products/services/solutions. It consists of the annual Global MAKE Award - the international benchmark for best practice knowledge organisations, and similar studies at regional/national levels. The winners of the Global MAKE Award are selected by an expert panel comprising of business executives from Fortune 500 companies, leading knowledge-management practitioners as well as intellectual capital experts.

What is the Hong Kong MAKE Award?

This award focused at the regional/national level has been introduced in Asia, Europe, India, Indonesia, Japan and North American. The Hong Kong MAKE Award was firstly introduced in 2008 and hosted by the Knowledge Management Research Centre of The Hong Kong Polytechnic University. The purpose of this award is not just to acknowledge the commitment in Knowledge Management (KM), but also to bring public recognition to those organisations that have achieved outstanding performance in KM practices. With the continuous support from The Intellectual Property Department of the Government of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, The Chinese General Chamber of Commerce, The Hong Kong General Chamber of Commerce and Hong Kong Young Industrials Council, and the great support from Business and Professionals Federation of Hong Kong, The Hong Kong Computer Society, The Hong Kong Council of Social Service, Hong Kong Hotels Association, Hong Kong Institute of Certified Public Accountants and The Law Society of Hong Kong, the Hong Kong MAKE Award 2009 was successfully organised in Hong Kong in October last year. Organisations from different sectors including government, public utilities, hotel, logistic and accounting etc. joined the Hong Kong MAKE Award 2009. Hong Kong Police Force of HKSAR Government has been awarded as the Top Winner of the Hong Kong MAKE Award 2009 and also one of the winning organizations of the Asian MAKE Award 2009.
